Review: Tablo - Fever's End Part 1
Finally! Tablo's Back, and this time with YG entertainment and seemingly stronger than ever. Tablo's solo come-back with 'Fever's End' has been greatly anticipated.
The album is split into two 'parts'. The first part of this album consists of 5 tracks, which are all original songs written by Tablo, with no instrumentals or remixes. (Which is pretty impressive if you ask me)
Tack One: Home (ft. Lee Sora) This was an interesting way to kick off an album, yet one of my favourites. Most album introductions have and upbeat 'party' vibe to them. However, this could not be any further from that. This song tells the story of 'Tajinyo' and Tablo's depression through that period of time. The lyrics are seemingly truthful and poetic, as if we are looking into Tablo's mind. The song is accompanied by Lee Sora, her chilling voice sets the mood of the song. Lee Sora's beautiful voice really stands out on this track and really pulls at your heart-strings. I can guarantee that I will be looking into Lee Sora's songs in the future.
Track Two: Bad (ft. Jinsil) Another one of my favourites in this album. You can hear the anger in Tablo's voice as he rips through the poetic lyrics, however later smooths out into the usual 'Tablo Formula' with rapping and a repetitive chorus sung by a beautiful voice. This beautiful voice is that of Lee Jinsil, the leader singer of the electro-pop group 'Mad Soul Child'. Jinsil's voice really fits the song well as it creates a vulnerable and unsteady mood which matches the almost 'bipolar' nature of the lyrics. However, I prefer the more intense studio version than the lighter live versions. The music video to this song is very well made, as unlike many other Korean songs these days, the video actually reflects the lyrics. Unfortunately, due to the harsh and rather violent nature of the music video it was banned in Korea.
Track Three: Airbag (Ft. Naul) This song just reflects Tablo's mood in the past year, from his move to YG and the lasted 'Scandal'. This song just screams 'isolation'. However the vocals of Naul from Brown Eyed Soul and Tablo's (both beautiful in their own right) don't mash well, therefore making it rather difficult to get into this song. However nonetheless and beautiful song.
Track Four: Tide (Scratch by JD Frizz) This has to be one of my least favourite on the album, I'm not sure what about it makes me not like it as much as the others, but I don't think the song really fits well together- However, this may just be my personal preference, I like my music with a consistent flow.
Track Five: From The Bottom (Ft. Bumkey) A calming end to what I think was a great album, but brings a slightly lighter mood to the darker songs before. This is Tablo's 'apology' to his wife and his daughter who he feels a burden to from bringing them into the latest controversy. The song is calming, inspiration, emotional and extremely personal. Through this song we find out how 'normal' and down to earth Tablo is. Bumkey's voice is completely fitting to Tablo's and really gels together making the whole experience a lot more enjoyable. The song finishes with Tablo's young daughter saying 'daddy' for the first time, leaving an almost personalised signature to the album.
Overall, a really enjoyable album which has a different flavour to Epik High, however doesn't include the electro/hip hop vibe that the majority of YG songs have to them. The album is completely personalised to Tablo as if it was a diary of sorts, really making it stand out from the albums being released in Korea today.
